Description

Here we see the remains of a two-storey high Roman aqueduct which used to bring water to Ephesus. It spans the Dervenddere River, the ancient Marnas River, and was constructed between 7-15 AD. The aqueduct has three large arches in the lower level, with six smaller arches on top. According to inscriptions on either side of the aqueduct, a certain Sextilius Pollio provided, with his wife and stepson, funds for its construction, hence the aqueduct is also known as the Pollio Aqueduct.
