Description

The unexcavated mound of ancient Colossae, in the centre of the picture, is surrounded by trees which grow in the flood plain of the Lycus River. This ancient mound was the site where, in the first century, a church was established, possibly by Epaphras who was from Colossae (Colossians 1.7; 4.12). This church was the recipient of Paul’s Letter to the Colossians.
The snow-capped Mount Cadmus, seen on the left, is the source of a tributary of the Lycus River that flows to the south of Colossae. At the foot of Mount Cadmus is the modern village of Honaz.
