Salem – Jerusalem in the time of Melchizedek (annotated)

Description

After Abram had rescued Lot, he went to Salem where he met with Melchizedek and the King of Sodom (Genesis 14. 17-24). Salem, seen here from the north, was located on the lower spur of the Eastern Hill of Jerusalem in the area later known as the City of David.
Abram came from the north and the King of Sodom from the south, while Melchizedek would have left his city and gone east to meet them. This meeting must therefore have taken place near the Gihon Spring in the Kedron Valley (Valley of Shaveh or King’s Valley, see 2 Samuel 18.18).
