Smyrna Mount Pagos (Kadifekale)

Categories: , , ,

Looking through the west colonnade of Smyrna’s Agora, we see the top of Mount Pagos. The beautiful marble buidings which once graced this mountain top have been compared to a crown. One poet compared Smyrna to a statue of the mother goddess Cybele with her feet on the sea and her head crowned with a circle of beautiful buildings. The promised “crown of life” (Revelation 2.10) has been said by some to refer to the top of Mount Pagos.
