Description

in his letter to the Laodicean church, Jesus speaks of their lukewarmness, that they were “neither cold nor hot.” This allusion would have been clear to citizens of Laodicea, who were well-aware that the cold refreshing water of its near neighbor Colossae came from snow-and-rain-fed streams that rushed down from the peak of nearby Mount Cadmus. A tributary of this river runs in a deep gorge and disappears from view near Colossae. On the north side of Colossae, the Lycus River appears again through an opening in a cave, which is visible in the picture. Eventually the Lycus River flows into the Meander River further to the west.
