Description
A cutaway reconstruction drawing of Barclay’s Gate and its internal stairway. The massive lintel of Barclay’s Gate is visible in that part of the area reserved for women’s worship, below the ramp which leads up to the Temple Mount. Behind this lintel parts of the original Herodian L-shaped stepped passageway have been preserved. Below the sill of the gate, Warren discovered the spring of an arch, which presumably supported a stairway leading up from the main street to the gate.
