Capernaum House

Description

This drawing shows a house in Capernaum that was built with basalt stones. The rooms of the house were located round a central courtyard, which had a water cistern. The main living quarters were upstairs, while other rooms were used for storage and work. In one corner, animals were kept overnight behind a fenestrated wall, a wall with windows, where fodder was placed.
Capernaum, on the Sea of Galilee, was the city where Jesus lived after he left Nazareth (Matthew 4.13; Mark 2.1; Luke 4.31;  John 2.12).
