Description
The Quneitira Monastery is located 2 km (1.2 miles) southeast of the monastery of Caparbaricha, and 4 km (2.5 miles) east of Tel Ziph. This monastery is associated with Euthymius who settled in the desert in 423—428 AD. The church, tower, dwelling units, and a water reservoir were arranged around a central courtyard that was paved with coarse mosaics. The remains of the oil-press include a pair of stone posts in situ. As the monastery was built on a slope, retaining walls with arches supported this main level. A staircase descended from the courtyard to the agricultural terraces that were located about 2.5 m (8 feet) lower down.
