Description

Two massive winged creatures, called Cherubim, stood in the Holy of Holies (Most Holy Place) of Solomon’s Temple. “The total wingspan of the Cherubim was twenty cubits (34 feet, 10.50 m). One wing of the first Cherub was five cubits long and touched the Temple wall, while its other wing, also five cubits long, touched the wing of the other cherub. ” (2 Chronicles 3.11). The Ark of the Covenant stood between these Cherubim.
On the left of the image are the doors, made of olive wood, which led into the Holy Place. The doors were decorated with carvings of cherubim, palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid with gold (1 Kings 6.31,32).
