Description

The large temenos of the Asclepium (or Asclepion), viewed here from the top of its theatre, was dedicated to the cult of the serpent-god Asclepius, who offered both healing and personal salvation.
In the sacred courtyard, which was surrounded by colonnades, were fountains and baths for bathing. A theatre and library were also available for the entertainment and leisure of the visiting patients.
