Trumpeting Stone

$6.00

Description

A large stone with a Hebrew inscription carved on it was found on the Herodian street near the southwest corner of the Temple Mount. The inscription, which may be translated as “to the place of trumpeting to [announce] …”, indicated the place where the priest stood to blow the trumpet to announce the commencement of the Sabbath and feast-days.
In this drawing the priest stands blowing the trumpet in the designated place. From this high position he could be heard all over the city.
