Description

Paul, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila visited the city of Ephesus on his First Missionary Journey (Acts 18.18-23) and established a church there.
This is a view of the southeast corner of the commercial agora of Ephesus. The large courtyard was surrounded by columns, many of which have been re-erected. A covered walkway was located in between these pillars and the shops. The Apostle Paul, who was a tentmaker, may have rented one of these shops or otherwise have set up a stall under these covered walkways to set out his wares and attract more trade (Acts 18.18-23). We can imagine him debating some point of the Gospel with his customers or with other trades people like himself in one of the shops under the colonnades.
Ephesus was the first of the seven churches mentioned in the Book of Revelation to receive a letter from Jesus Christ (Revelation 2.1-7).
