Description

In Caesarea, Herod built a palace out into the sea. A swimming pool was carved out of the rock and surrounded by pillars and rooms. The remains of this swimming pool have been perfectly preserved. In between the pillars were sunken basins that served as receptacles for flowers and plants. In this image we see two such receptacles north of the swimming pool.
