Blessing of the Priests

Description

Traditional prayers were offered at the time of incense. In Herod’s Temple, when the offering of prayers had finished, the priests who had performed their appointed tasks came and stood on the steps of the porch, as we see here in this slide. The priests would then raise their hands above their heads and pronounce the priestly blessing of Numbers 6. 24-26 “The Lord bless thee and keep thee: the Lord make His face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: the Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”
When in Luke 1.22, Zacharias as incensing priest for the day, “beckoned unto them, and remained speechless,” the people were expecting him to recite this blessing.
