Description
Like most Hellenistic and Roman cities, Hierapolis had a a very large agora with a stoa on the eastern side, of which one column is still standing above steps.
Hierapolis is mentioned only once in the New Testament, namely in Colossians 4.13. From Paul’s letter to the Colossians it is clear that Hierapolis was closely associated with Laodicea and Colossae, together forming a cluster of three churches in the Lycus Valley in Asia Minor.
