Ephesus Library of Celsus

$4.00

Description

The famous Library of Celsus was built in 117 A.D. and therefore did not yet exist when the messenger delivered the Book of Revelation to the church at Ephesus, although preparations for its construction may have already begun. On the right, we see one of the gates of Mazeus and Mithridates, which gave access to the commercial agora. This library could hold 12,000 scrolls and was the third largest library in the ancient world, after Alexandria and Pergamum.
