The Temple of Artemis was regarded by ancient writers as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Temple of Artemis measured 425 feet long and 220 feet wide and was supported by 127 columns. Each fluted column was 57 feet high and was capped by an Ionic capital. The walls in the foreground are remains of the temple. The one standing column has been assembled from fragments that were found in the excavations.
