Description

After having raised Lazarus the Jewish authorities made plans to kill Jesus. Jesus therefore left and went to a town called Ephraim ( John 11:54).
This city of Ephraim can be identified with the archaeological site of Khirbet el-Maqatir, where remains of houses, a city wall, ritual baths and a large tower from the first century have been discovered. This is the only site to the immediate north of Jerusalem that has a city wall and therefore qualifies to be called a city (Gk: polis).
