Ephesus Harbour Road (Arcadian Way)

$4.00

Description

Ephesus was the first of the seven churches to receive a letter from Jesus Christ and not surprisingly, as it was the largest city of Asia. The messenger with the seven letters who came from Patmos would have landed here, at the wealthy seaport of Ephesus.
This picture was taken in spring time, when some water collects in the basin of the former harbour, revealing its previous outline. The colonnaded harbour road, in the centre of the picture, which was later called Arcadian Way (after the emperor Arcadius, who rebuilt it at the end of the 4th century A.D.) led from the harbour to the city.
