Description

This reconstruction drawing shows the Holy of Holies of Solomon’s Temple in relation to the Rock. The Holy of Holies is placed on the Rock, which is actually the top of Mount Moriah and visible inside the Islamic Dome of the Rock. A special emplacement was cut in the rock for the Ark of the Covenant (1 Kings 8.6,21).
Two massive winged creatures, called Cherubim, stood in the Holy of Holies (Most Holy Place) of Solomon’s Temple and the Ark of the Covenant stood between these Cherubim. The Deuteronomy Scroll is placed next to the Ark of the Covenant.
After the destruction of the First Temple, another Temple was built in the time of Zerubbabel and Yeshua the High Priest, which was later replaced by Herod’s temple. The location of the Holy of Holies remained the same in all of these Temples.
