Description

In Tell Tayinat, a mound situated on the banks of the ancient Orontes river, a temple was excavated that resembled the layout of King Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem. It had an entrance porch with two pillars, resting on crouching lions. Solomon’s Temple also had two pillars, called Yachin and Boaz (1 Kings 7.21, 2 Chron. 3.17). Behind this porch was a larger room, which may have served as a Holy Place, and at the end of the building was a smaller room with an altar.
This temple dates from the 9th century BC and was constructed after the time of King Solomon.
