Although Colossae has not yet been excavated, remains of a defensive wall that protected Colossae, can easily be detected on the site. Beyond the steep slope of the upper part of the city, the lower city can be seen. In the background is Mount Cadmus, the source of a tributary of the Lycus River that flows to the south of Colossae.
Farmers grow crops on the top of the ancient mound of Colossae. In the picture, a healthy looking crop of barley covers the mound.
