Laodicea is located on a 100 feet high plateau in the middle of the Lycus Valley. Two other Christian sites are located nearby. Hierapolis is 6 miles to the northeast and Colossae 10 miles to the southeast.
A colonnaded street ran due west through most of the city (going from right to left in the centre of the picture) and has been preserved in its rebuilt Byzantine form. Beyond the street, on the north side, some tall columns can be seen. These belong to a marble temple, which, prior to its proper identification, is known as Temple A.
