Jericho Herod’s Winter Palace

Categories: , ,

Herod the Great built a winter palace complex on both sides of the Wadi Qelt near Jericho. A palace with a reception room, open courtyards and a bath complex stood on the northern bank, while a bridge connected this part with a sunken garden and swimming pool on the other side of the river bed.
When Jesus departed from Jericho to go to Jerusalem (Matthew 20.29; Mark 10.46; Luke 19.1), he would have passed by this palace complex.
